Sean Tilley is a user on social.nasqueron.org. You can follow them or interact with them if you have an account anywhere in the fediverse. If you don't, you can sign up here.

Playing around with #diaspora has made me ponder the difference in use case between it and #Mastodon. I like both, and they can federated with one another, but other than UI they don't seem particularly different. Once you get past the paint job, are they really different enough to use both?

@inkslinger The Fediverse and the Federation federate in a very limited sense -- you can follow a Diaspora account from GNU Social. I don't even know how you would do it from Mastodon.

But there's no interaction, it's just like following an RSS feed (which is basically what's going on).

@clacke @ink_slinger It's a gap that I hope we can bridge someday.

At the end of the day it's all just fancy email
@clacke @whistlewright I think we could benefit if we could encapsulate the GUI, the comm layer(s), and the database/schema into interchangeable modules. Diaspora UI on top of Mastodon data with a fediverse-federation comm.
@vaeringjar @whistlewright Yes! I was just thinking that I want Pleroma FE on top of patchfoo.

Basically I want Pleroma FE on top of All The Things.
@deadsuperhero @ink_slinger @clacke

I hear there is a social server that has this as an eventual goal :)

@kaniini All that info about Plemora is good to know. It really does make Plemora sound more interesting than I thought.

@deadsuperhero @ink_slinger @clacke Well I suppose that is a matter of preferences. I use both, but my main social network (where I spend mostly my time) is here, due, in first place, it's mobile my main source of connection. D* has very poor support of crossposting among floss networks, in part because its developers have never finished the api and its devs are a few members. So, interaction is very limited.

@diablo Yeah, I used both fairly consistently now, but definitely use Mastodon way more than diapora or any other social network (except, maybe, Reddit, if we consider that social media).
