THINKIN' ABOUT POTATOES
In summary:
- information on the server (including the DMs you send) are unencrypted.
- the person who runs your mastodon instance has access to the server and CAN access this unencrypted info. They may do this intentionally or by accident during maintenance.
- this is common across ALL messaging services, but since Mastodon servers can be small, it's easier to do than it would be on other services.
Be aware and toot safely, thanks for everyone who contributed! :sunglasses:
Today's Should've Known Better Mistake: drafting the conference proposal on the submission page over the course of several hours, clicking submit, session's timed out, proposal is gone. Head meets desk. Proposal is due today. It might be time to call it.
I love the adoption of the green checkmark by Mastodon users. "I'm verified! I swear! By me!" But when I see it, I still get that sense of, "Yup, that's them all right." I've been trained well, Bird Site.
Guys. Don't block the follow bots.
I know on bird site we block the follow bots, but on Mastodon, follow bots are our friends.
They come to your instance and follow you, and by doing so, they bring your posts into the federated timeline on their instance.
This is how federation works; the follow bots are to help us connect.
500 characters feels positively luxurious. Whatever shall I do with all this free space? Take up ASCII art?
