@djsundog Great, now I'll have to... meet people in public spaces.

@funbreaker @djsundog By looking strangers in the eye and somehow being attractive enough, I guess.

@funbreaker @djsundog Actually, my real concerns now are on FOSTA and what implications that has for other services...

@deadsuperhero @djsundog @funbreaker

my conclusions so far:

- being able to disable media proxy is now really important (there is much higher liability risk for illegal content now)

- allowing sex workers on your platform is probably risky

- if a user uploads an explicit photo or video of themselves, somebody else could report it to the cops, and it could be a shitshow (explicit content should be non-public i guess)

@deadsuperhero but it only applies when there's cause to assume that the site was actively doing fuckall about it

and Craigslist is known for being shady as fuck

@funbreaker You're not wrong, and there were some pretty serious problems with the section. Still, though, a lot of queer people relied on it for discreet encounters.

@deadsuperhero

awesome

perfect time for me to launch my new dating app, Four's A Crowd

the idea is that ten people are randomly selected to do speed dating style interactions

BUT

if A wants B's contact info, A and B and at least TWO OTHER people out of the ten total speed daters have to answer yes that they thought they were interested in each other

it's wonktacular but wonktacular to my brain is apparently what flourishes in the world

so

I am set to become the next evil ruler of earth

@deadsuperhero if fetlife gets shut down I'm organizing a riot

@vantablack I think FetLife is a little more stringent in requiring a membership to use the service and peruse anything within.

I would lose my fucking mind if it shut down.

@deadsuperhero i think the us goverment will end up like the uk because the bill will just flood sex trafficking to the darkweb

@1iceloops123 it's plausible, but also troubling because that would make the public perception of the decentralized independent web even murkier.

The lines are already blurred between what constitutes a darkweb and what doesn't. Some p2p thing like RetroShare gets compared with Bitcoin gets compared to the i2p darkweb, and to an underinformed public, those technologies are all basically the same thing.

@deadsuperhero well i hope it gets appealed maybe a mob can convince the goverment its a bad idea
@deadsuperhero

Reminder that 98/100 senators voted for this. The two that didn't are:
(R) Rand Paul
(D) Ron Wyden

@deadsuperhero I predict a big rise in Canada based dating sites. Companies aren't simply going to sit and be liable for the actions of their users

@deadsuperhero Yep. The bill was mostly targeted at Backpage, but CL was affected as well. Good thing we are all safe from escorts now.

@deadsuperhero i suppose the pros and johns will have to take it to backpage. wait, not that's a leo sting
