I don't know whether any new bridges have been made available since I initially reviewed it, but I don't see why an XMPP bridge would be impossible.

I just view instant messaging as like having a pen pal.
I grew up with the era of forums and instant messenger, and there are dynamics of both things that forged some deeply meaningful personal relationships.
