Although, if enough people embraced it, brands could hypothetically live on their own domains. This is also true for news outlets, which could just syndicate their articles through OStatus instead of RSS.

@deadsuperhero @pyry tbh I love that idea — as others have mentioned, this can also serve as verification, like you'd know that @sonyamann@mastodon.inc.com was the real Sonya Mann in her role as a journalist, and be able to identify impersonators

I don't understand why brands wouldn't want this. It gives brands total control over their instance.
